Help volunteers want to come back
People return when they understand their role, feel supported on the day, and can see that their contribution mattered.
Make the assignment clear
Tell volunteers when to arrive, where to go, who to contact, and what they will be doing. Ask about availability rather than assuming a past participant can help again. Keep the assignment with the event record.
Support the day itself
Give each volunteer a named organizer to turn to. Share changes early and explain how to handle common questions. A calm handoff at check-in matters more than a long document nobody had time to read.
Close the loop
Thank people for the specific work they did and ask what would make the next event easier. Use participation history to prepare relevant invitations, not to treat someone’s time as an obligation.
